- On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijack airplanes and fly them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon
- A year and a half later, President George W Bush invades Iraq, accusing Saddam Hussein of possessing weapons of mass destruction
- Soon after Saddam’s regime is toppled, a Sunni insurgency begins in Iraq
- Meanwhile, the Intifada in Palestine is getting worse and the death toll continues to rise
